Landscape
frieze
The location of the school at the edge of the forest was decisive
for my choice of idea and the elements I drew into the frieze.
The thematic objective is to create thinking disturbances in our
preconceptions and expectations of what nature is - and for whom?
The basis for the composition is the everyday, what we surround
ourselves with every day that we may not notice and take for granted.
I
photographed the outdoor areas of Tokerud school, focusing mainly
on what exists and grows at the ground level, close reading and
photographing the zone where the forest meets the asphalt of the
schoolyard. The plants and weeds are elevated up and above the
insignificant. The photos form the basis of the drawn frieze.
The
composition of the landscape frieze is built upon the visual soundwave
of the speech by Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream",
28. August 1063.
The rhythmic composition of the sound image has governed the composition
of the image. The text I have placed running across the centerline/horizon
in the frieze is from the speech "I have a dream" by
Martin Luther King Jr., 28. August 1963.
With
this drawing I want to show how beautiful and significant and
knowledgeable the overlooked can be, and the joy of discovering
the unexpected. By reading the image closely, one may discover
a surprising number of details, perhaps some dissonance, foreign
objects, skewed sizes, etc., be it texts, objects and absurd constellations
of parts that may trigger thought processes: Realism meets fiction.
